FOOT CHECK-UP & FOOTWEAR CHANGE – WHAT’S THAT?

Hey gorgeous lady, are you pregnant?

I am a foot doctor and I am writing this blog just for you...

Pregnancy, a span of 9 months, is a life-changing and memorable experience. A beautiful baby grows inside a women’s womb during these 9 months. Many changes happen in the mother’s body during this phase.

You will be rapidly putting on many kilograms approximately 11- 20 kgs and that is going to be tough for your feet. Suddenly your poor feet have to carry a significant amount of

extra weight. So, it’s not surprising if pregnant women complain of sore feet and legs frequently.

Supportive Healthy Footwear becomes necessary at this time.

Other than this, pregnancy hormones loosen your ligaments all over the body including the foot. Foot ligaments get to loosen up and can lead to lengthening or widening your feet by

flattening your foot arches. When your arch flattens, your body weight will be more

concentrated on the inner part of your ankles and feet as your feet roll inside while standing or walking.

PREGNANCY HORMONES CAN LOOSEN LIGAMENTS AND FLATTEN FOOT ARCHES

Sometimes even before pregnancy also, your feet are in faulty angles means it can be low arch feet or flat feet, a high arch or it can be flat fat pad in your feet. Such feet are really in big trouble when during pregnancy you gain extra kgs plus hormonal changes happen. Our feet, knees, hip, and spine are connected like a chain, so trouble in feet can have trouble in them too.

When the foot function at a faulty angle, it can lead to heel pain, arch pain, ankle pain, bunion, hallux valgus, wear and tear, or arthritic changes in small joints of the foot, ankle, and knee. Many times, faulty foot angle is also a big reason for getting back pain during pregnancy.

So my dear lady, go and get a “Healthy pair of slippers and shoes” for yourself before you gain significant weight. And if you have flat feet or any other foot problem, do consult your Podiatrist/ Foot doctor without getting late.

NOW IT’S TIME TO GIVE A BREAK TO YOUR HEELS, BELLIES AND

LAKHNAVIES…

Here I am giving a few suggestions which will help you choose the right…

1. Your foot can become chubby and swollen, so get something skin friendly and adjustable

2. Don’t wear thin soles.

3. Select wide soles which will give you a good broad base when your posture changes with a big

belly and will give you a stable and good balance.

4. Footwear should be easy to wear

5. Check the outer sole, it should not be slippery on water.

6. Invest in good sport's shoes, as walking is a good form of exercise during pregnancy.

7. Select shoes of breathable and stretchable fabric.

8. Don’t go for walk or out shopping in slippers or open footwear always choose shoes over those.

9. Consider orthotics in shoes or orthotic slippers, they will give you better support and better weight distribution on your feet.

10. Check on these sites www.drfootcure.com and www.trucure.in for more information and healthy footwear.

Even considering all of the above after pregnancy, a lactating mother’s body uses lots of calcium to make milk and other nutrients have been transferred from the mother’s body to the baby’s body during pregnancy. This can lead to more bone, muscle, and joint problems. And so it’s necessary to take care of the base of the body, and that’s FOOT.

During motherhood, the mother has to lift the baby many times a day. If during

this time feet are not secured properly, which can lead to pain and damage to

feet and other joints.

My must advise for you is

“ NEVER BE BAREFOOT DURING AND EVEN AFTER PREGNANCY, NOT EVEN AT

HOME”
